This effect may be unacceptable to some people. (In Debian the apmiser program is not started in any runlevel by default; the admin has either to run update-rc.d to add runlevel S links or to do "/etc/init.d/apmiser start".) Saving line power may also abate fan noise and global warming. + Second, it isn't necessary for apmiser to turn itself on and off. Instead, the admin can hang a script on apmd's proxy hook that starts and stops apmiser according to her local policy.
